「星の王子さま」のマルタ語翻訳版により、マルタ語のコーパス構築を進めている。単語の原形とともに、語根の特定作業を進めている。アラビア語の語源におけるいくつかの子音が、マルタ語では合流、交替しているため、マルタ語での語根を規定するルールの構築が必要となる。コーパスからの辞書の作成作業の中で、語根の規定を構築している。アラビア語諸方言の中で、マルタ語とエジプト方言、文語との文法、とくに時制体系の対照を行うため、マルタ語のコーパスにおいて時制形式と時制的意味の規定を進めつつ、時制的意味の範疇化、および形式化との対応を進めている。アラビア語の地域における、セム諸語のその他の文法についても類型的特徴を調査し、地図作成し、「アジア・アフリカ地理言語研究」において発表および報告書を作成した。数詞体系（Numeral systems）、SOV統語関係（Alignment）を扱った。また前年度の、セム諸語の語彙「麦」（Wheat）の語形の調査、破裂音の体系（Stop series）の報告の成果を掲載した「Linguistic Atlas of Asia and Africa II」が出版された。
