量的研究においては、統計的検討を適用して統計的有意差の検証を行うことが一般的である。看護学研究においても、統計学の導入の過程で統計的検討が有用され、広く多用されている。その統計的内容は大部分がαを用いる有意差の検定である。しかしながら、有意差検定は帰無仮説において帰無仮説が棄却できるかできないかを検討するものであることに限られている。ここで、統計差検定はサンプルサイズが大きくなるほど有意差をみいだす可能性が高まることが示されており、そのサイズが小さいために有意差をみいだせない可能性が高まるという決定的な限界を持つ。そこで、「効果量、サンプルサイズ、有意水準、検定力の４つのパラメータは相互に影響しあう」という数理統計的な知見に基づく検定力分析が重要となる。このうち、有意水準と検定力とはそれぞれ0.05と0.80という値が慣習的に使用されており、残る効果量とサンプルサイズの設定が重要な課題となる。本研究では、まず、サンプルサイズ決定へ直結する効果量の設定実態について整理・評価することを目的としている。このため、検定力分析に関わる海外の教育実態や主要書著・論文等の検討を進め、その意義や分析の実際の手順を検討し、看護研究の特性を踏まえ我が国の看護系大学に適した実施支援のための具体的かつ標準的な方策について講究することを進めた。ffect　sizeを題名に含む著書、保健医療に関する代表的な雑誌（Nejm、Am J Epidemiol、Nurs Res等）を中心に解析を進め、これらを整理する段階にある。翌年度は、これらの検討内容を踏まえ、研究者が効果量を設定する上でのフールブックに相当するものを作ることを予定している。
