项目摘要

本研究は「1. なぜ新プラトン主義は可能知性・能動知性を論じなかったか」，「2. 知性論と『カテゴリー論』はどのような関係にあるのか」という二つの問いに，様々な角度から取り組んでいる。本年度は研究の最終段階として，古代末期に知性論を論じることの意義を扱った。新プラトン主義だけでなく，アリストテレス主義にとっても，知性について論じることは認識の問題だけでなく，世界の存在の理解と人間の生き方・あり方の理想を問題とすることであった。これまでの研究から，知性（そして知性が付与する形相）は，世界のあらゆる存在にとっての終極・目的であることが明らかとなったが，目的因の理解に新プラトン主義とアリストテレス主義には大きな隔たりがある。そこで本年度は新プラトン主義の目的の理解と，主にアレクサンドロスの目的論を研究対象とした。アレクサンドロスの目的論については世界的にも研究が少ないため，専門家であるMarwan Rashed教授（Centre Leon Robin: CNRS-Universite Paris-Sorbonne）のもとで在外研究を行った。Rashed教授からは，参照すべき関連テクストの示唆や，古代末期からイスラームにおけるアレクサンドロスの受容と批判に関する知見を受けた。アレクサンドロスは，「より優れたものが原因となる」という，西洋哲学史において主流となる新プラトン主義的な原因の考えを持ちながらも，人間知性の発達や能動知性を論じる文脈ではそうした原理ではなく目的論に訴えている。「人はなぜ知ることを欲するのか」という問いに取り組む『形而上学』第1巻への注釈と並行して，プロティノスや後期新プラトン主義者たちが同じ問題にどのように取り組んだのかを明らかにした。
