本研究は、現代イギリスの劇作家キャリル・チャーチルの後期作品と、同時代のユーゴスラヴィア空爆反対運動との連関を明らかにすることを目指すものである。本研究には、ポスト冷戦期における政治的変動とそれに呼応する市民運動が、現代イギリスの文学作品を形成する要因の一つであることを明らかにするとともに、チャーチルおよび同時代のイギリスの劇作家の作品と作家たちの市民運動への参加の実態を検証することで、同時代の社会の状況と密接な結びつきを保ちながら展開してきた現代イギリス演劇の特徴を明らかにすることができるという意義がある。本年度の研究の成果としては、（1）イギリスのウォーリック大学Modern Record Centre（MRC）、大英博物館、BFI（British Film Institute）の資料館における海外調査を実施し、関連資料を収集することができた。また、（2）上記の成果に基づく日本英文学会第95回全国大会研究報告への応募が採択された。本年度は研究期間中初めてとなるイギリスへの海外調査に赴き、ユーゴスラヴィア空爆反対運動の実態に関する資料を収集することができた。とりわけウォーリック大学MRCではLabour CND内の空爆反対キャンペーンに関するデモの告知やトニー・ブレア首相に対する抗議の手紙等の貴重な資料を確認することができた。また大英博物館やBFIでは同時代のユーゴスラヴィア空爆に関する報道映像やテレビ番組等を調査し、メディアにおけるユーゴスラヴィア空爆の表象に関する分析を進めることができた。これらの調査の結果を踏まえ、前年度までの調査で明らかになったユーゴスラヴィア空爆に関わりの深いイギリス人劇作家の内、ハロルド・ピンター、ハワード・ブレントン・キャリル・チャーチルの三人のユーゴスラヴィア空爆反対運動への関わりと作品の連関について研究報告を作成した。

This study focuses on the modern and contemporary dramatists 'later works and the contemporary anti-explosion movement. This study examines the political dynamics of contemporary dramatists and their participation in the civic movement. The social conditions of the contemporary era are closely related to the development of modern drama. The results of this year's research include: (1) overseas research conducted by the University Modern Record Centre (MRC), the British Museum, and the British Film Institute (BFI) database, and collection of related data. (2) The results of the above report are based on the research report of the 95th National Congress of the Japanese English Society. This year, we collected data from overseas surveys conducted at the beginning of the study period. The MRC is responsible for confirming valuable data such as toilet paper in the Labour CND. The British Museum and the BFI have been investigating and analyzing contemporary images and images. The results of this investigation were reported in the previous year's investigation, and the research report on the relationship between the author's work and the anti-explosion movement was prepared.
