项目摘要

本年度は，教育と分配的正義に関する先行研究をレビューし，教育に求められる平等の在り方について，理論的な検討を行った。具体的には，教育の平等論を扱った政治哲学者として，ハリー・ブリグハウス，アダム・スイフト，エリザベス・アンダーソンらの議論を検討した。また現代政治哲学における平等理論のキーワードである，運の平等主義，分配的平等主義と関係的平等主義，目的論的平等主義・十分主義・優先主義といった諸概念についてレビューした。そのうえで，学力格差に関する実証的研究が豊富にある一方で，学力格差に関する規範的研究が少ないことを問題意識として，日本の学力格差研究における規範的前提について考察を行った。具体的には，「何の平等か―なぜ学力は重要なのか」，「なぜ平等でなければならないのか―何のために学力格差の克服を目指すのか」という2つの問いについて検討を行った。論文の結論においては，政治哲学者のジョナサン・ウルフが「平等主義のエートス」として掲げる「公正」と「尊重」を取り上げ，学力格差を克服することの重要性を再確認するとともに，学力格差研究において見逃されがちな論点について言及した。また教育の平等概念を再検討していくうえでは，学力格差をはじめとする教育の格差・不平等がどのようなメカニズムを通して生まれるのかを考察する作業が不可欠である。この点について，近年の社会階層研究において注目を集めているマタイ効果―有利／不利が累積するメカニズムを指す概念―に着目して，学力格差の拡大メカニズムについて理論的な検討を行った。
