项目摘要

2022年度はShakespeareの作品を研究対象とした。3月に刊行した論文では「時のメタファー」をテーマとし、As You Like It とSonnetsに描かれた〈時〉と人との関わりを表す比喩表現を観察し、従来の認知メタファー論の見解では捉えきれていないShakespeare独特の時間認識およびその認識を構成するメタファーの構造について考察した。Shakespeareが〈時の翁〉という文化モデルをどのように扱っているかに注目し、Sonnetsに表された〈時〉のメタファーが、人間にとって理不尽で無慈悲で手に負えない存在としての〈時〉の性質とともに、〈時〉の不可逆性をも反映するものであることを論じた。また、Sonnets全154編中、特に美しい青年への愛を描いた1番から126番までの詩群を対象にした論文では、〈時〉との関わりの中での詩人の青年に対する認識のしかたと愛情について、人間を〈植物〉として理解するメタファーの観点から考察し、詩に明示されない隠されたレトリックを考察した。研究分担者は、Shakespeareと同時代の詞華集に見られるtimeの形容辞に着目しながら、Shakespeareの詩と戯曲における擬人化された〈時〉の複数のイメージおよび〈時〉への呼びかけに見られるメタファーについて考察した。また、Hamletにおける動物名のメタファーに着目した論文では、動物名のメタファー義を考察、指摘した数あるHamlet研究書や校訂テクストにおいて言及の抜けている動物名について指摘し、本作品中の動物名の繰り返しと列挙の意味、および日本語への翻訳によって失われるメタファー義の問題について、多数の日本語訳作品を比較することにより論じた。
