项目摘要

本申請研究は、20世紀初頭の帝国主義体制下における帝国間の協調的つながりを解明すべく、アジア太平洋の海域世界で活動していたライバル国、つまりイギリスとドイツ・オーストリアの在外海軍に注目している。特に本研究計画ではイギリス側の視点に力点を置き、ドイツ・オーストリアの同盟国海軍、さらには日本海軍の動向にも注視したものである。本年度の研究期間中にとりわけ注力したのは、東アジアにおける「1914年」の意味をめぐる史料分析である。20世紀初頭の帝国主義国間の協調関係の本質を考察する際、この「1914年」という分水嶺が持つ意義はきわめて大きい。同年の7月から8月にかけてヨーロッパでは大戦が勃発し、さらには8月下旬の日本の対独宣戦により戦争の局面が東アジアへ拡大した。大戦前のこの地域に見られた帝国間の「協調」がこれを機にどのように変質したか、①大戦直前の様子（1914年前半）、②急転（1914年夏）、③大戦勃発直後の様子（1914年後半）に分けて検討した。考察の素材としては、東アジアの外国人居留地で発行された英字新聞『ノース・チャイナ・ヘラルド（The North-China Herald）』、および東アジアの代表的なドイツ語新聞『東アジア・ロイド（Der Ostasiatische Lloyd）』『上海通信（Shanghaier Nachrichten）』『ドイツ・日本ポスト（Deutsche Japan-Post）』を調査分析した。その結果、本研究の主課題である「協調」と「対立」の融合メカニズムを解き明かす重要なカギが「1914年」という年全体（および前半期と後半期の対照関係）に含まれていることが見出された。こうして得られた知見は、次年度に予定している海外での資料調査の基盤となることが期待される。

This application studies the coordination between empires under the imperialist system at the beginning of the 20th century, and explains the activities of the Pacific Ocean world. In particular, this research project focuses on the development of the Allied Navy and the Japanese Navy. The main topic of this study is the integration of "coordination" and "opposition". It is important to understand the relationship between "1914" and "1914". The data base of overseas survey is expected to be determined in the following year.
