昨年度に引き続き、今年度も観察研究班(浅野、河村、矢内)、サーベイ実験班(尾野、福元、浅野)、実験室実験班(齋藤、横山、河村、中村)及 び脳画像解析班(杉浦、尾野、横山)で分担して研究を実施した。観察研究班は、昨年度、衆議院選挙の選挙公報を可能な限り入手したので、2021年度繰越事業として実施した候補者の美顔度と得票の「因果関係」を明らかにするためのサーベイ実験結果を集計・分析した。次に、候補者の顔と得票に関するパイロットテスト実験を1000人程度に対し実施した。サーベイ実験班は、パイロット実験の結果を受け、実験の内容や計画を必要に応じて修正したうえで、顔写真評価のためのサーベイを3000人程度に対し実施した。サーベイ実験後、実験結果を共有し、今後の研究を進めるための意見交換会を実施した。この実験では、以前実施した494人の参院候補者を対象とした美顔度の結果を使って、被験者に対して美顔度が異なる二人の候補者の写真と最終学歴と主張する主要な政策を掲示し、どちらの候補者のことをより良く記憶しているかを問うた。その結果、候補者の美顔度が同程度の場合と比較すると、被験者は美顔の候補者に関する情報ほど良く記憶していることが明らかになった。
