项目摘要

前近代中国社会は、国家権力と地域の自律的な権力秩序がせめぎあうことで、独特の社会秩序を構成しており、その根幹部分は近代社会になってなお、現在に至るまで深く社会に根ざしている。そのような伝統中国社会における社会秩序が、どのように形成され、その構造の本質部分は何であったのか。１０～１４世紀の中国は、中間的知識階層、いわゆる「士大夫」層が形成され、地域社会に対して強い影響力を発揮するようになった重要な転換点に当たるが、この時期の史料状況は体系的な史料を欠く上、時期的・地域的な大きな偏りがありがあるため、個別事例を積み上げる従来の研究手法では、全体像が見えにくいという問題点が存在した。そこで本研究では、近年利用が容易になった大型叢書である『全宋文』『全元文』に注目し、中でも地域史研究の史料として活用されることの多い「記」を全て抽出し、時期・地域・著者に関わる関連情報をデータベース化して、数量分析を行うことを目指した。初年度に相当する今年度は、地域社会の重要な核である学校に焦点を当て、学校に関わる「記」約５００篇を上記の方法でデータベース化し、数量分析を行うとともに、あわせて史料読解を進めた。その結果、「学記」の執筆者が、広域的に著名な人物が多い傾向から、その地域に密接に関わりのある人が多い傾向へと、変遷していった様が浮かび上がった。また、「学記」に書かれた内容面でも、当該地域に根差した人々を読者として意識するものへと変化していったことが明らかになった。これらの成果と方法論の提示は、この時期の中国社会を通時的な動向の中でどのように位置付ければよいのか、今後の議論を喚起させる可能性を持つものである。
