项目摘要

本年度はまず、これまでに進めてきた属州ガリアにおけるパグス・ウィクス研究の一環として、ガリア南部におけるパグス・ウィクスが有した社会的紐帯についての内容をまとめ、学会報告・論文として発表した。これにより、初年度以降続けてきたパグス・ウィクスについての研究成果の一端を公にすることができた。2019年度末の段階では、分析対象をパグス・ウィクスに絞りつつ、対象地域をヒスパニア・イタリアに拡大していく方針であったが、ガリアのパグス・ウィクスについての研究を進めていく過程で2020年度後半以降、「ガリア」という政治空間そのものに関心を抱くようになった。これまで、パグス・ウィクスの研究を通して、いわゆる「都市」よりマクロなレベルにおいても自律的な政治空間が存在し、独自の政治的コミュニケーションを見出しうるとの見解を示してきたが、それは、これまで行政上の基礎単位として議論の前提とされてきた「都市」という政治空間の相対化を図る試みでもあった。そして、そうした研究を続ける中で、そもそも「ガリア」という政治空間そのものが必ずしも自明のものではなく、その内部における種々の政治空間の存在や、それらの間のコミュニケーションの様相を詳細に分析する必要があると考えるに至った。それゆえ現在はガリア会議などガリア全体に関わる政治組織、およびガリアに存在した部族や都市の政治制度・政治空間についての分析を進めている。最終年度に至って、パグスおよびウィクスの分析に限定された当初の研究計画とは異なる方向で研究を進めることになった点は否めないが、これはあくまでも当初の研究計画の拡張であり、パグスやウィクスについての研究成果も、最終的にはここに統合される予定である。本年度中に博論としてまとめることは叶わなかったが、今後もガリアを主たる対象として、ローマ帝国における地方統治空間・政治空間についての研究を継続しいていく。
