超高齢化社会が現実化し、加齢性難聴を患う患者の割合が急速に上昇するのは必至である。医療現場において加齢性難聴は、医療スタッフと患者のコミュニケーションエラーのリスクを増加させる。また、加齢性難聴患者には通常よりも時間をかけて説明を行う必要があるため、診療に時間がかかり1日に診療できる患者数が制限されるため、医療経済上の効率も悪くなる。本研究の目的は、加齢性難聴が引き起こす患者と医療従事者とのコミュニケーションエラーを具体的に抽出して解析し、無料ソフトウェア（音声－文字自動変換）等を活用した加齢性難聴患者への低コストで汎用性のあるヒアリングサポートを行える病院内システムの構築を行うことである。前年までの研究で音声認識ソフトウェアを使用すると、その正答率や認識のされ方を抽出でき、医療現場での英語能力向上に必要な事項を客観的に分析できることが明らかとなった。そのことを踏まえ、さらに、このようなソフトウエアを加齢性難聴患者への診療支援システムとして利用できる方策について検討した。医療現場でのコミュニケーションの問題点を耳鼻咽喉科医、言語聴覚士、聴覚基礎分野研究者という音声・聴覚の専門家がそれぞれの観点を持ち寄り協力して検討した。具体的には、難聴が無い人を対象に疑似難聴状態での聞き取り実験を行い、聞き取りにくくなる様々な要因についての検討を行い、聞き取りにくさを増長する要因を検証することができた
