本研究では、全国の精神科病院に実態調査を行い、院内での患者自殺事故後の看護師に対するメンタルヘルスケア(ポストベンション)の実施状況・内容・方法を明らかにし、患者の自殺を経験した精神科看護師に対するメンタルヘルスケアプログラムの試案を開発することを目的とする 。平成31年度は、全国の精神科病院を対象にポストベンションの実施状況についての実態調査を行う予定であった。質問紙調査に先立ち再度文献レビューを行い、国内のポストベンションプログラムの実施状況・内容を探った。公益財団法人日本医療機能評価機構による院内自殺の予防と事後対応に関する研修会に参加し、院内自殺の実態、院内自殺の第１・２・３次予防について把握した。本テーマについては、デリケートな問題であることをふまえて実態調査は慎重に進めていく必要があり、専門家のスーパーバイズを受けられる体制を整え、アドバイスを受けながら精神科看護師に対するポストベンションの実態調査の進め方について検討した。令和2年度は全国の精神科病院に対し実態調査を行う予定であった。調査に先立ちパイロットスタディを実施予定であったがCOVID-19の影響で病院内に立ち入りができず打ち合わせも不可能であったため次年度以降に延期することとなった。調査票の試案を作成するために文献レビューを行った。令和3年度は、全国の精神科病院を対象にポストベンションの実施状況について把握するための調査票を作成した。令和4年度は全国の精神科病床を有する医療機関1415か所（私立・国公立その他）の看護部長宛てに自記式質問紙調査を実施した。394施設より回答があった。令和5年度は結果の分析、成果発表ならびにポストベンション研修を実施する予定である。
