高齢者の社会的孤立に対するアプローチとして自律型対話ロボットの活用を進め、独居者宅に4ヵ月から1年以上に及ぶ長期実験を実施し、追跡調査を行った。軽度認知障害（MCI）の高齢者をはじめ、健常高齢者を募って結果28名を対象に加えながら、新たにロボットへの「愛着を基盤とした行動変容（誘導）は可能か、またそのアプローチは効果と有効な手法について体系化することができるか」を検討する取り組みに着手した。他方でロボットへの愛着や幻想は、現実の誤認や欺瞞への誘導であるといった論点から倫理的な批判の対象になることもあるが、義務論的な観点からの批判に対して帰結に着目する観点から理論的に反論が可能である。実際にどのような影響が及び、どのような点について考慮が必要なのか、とりわけロボット撤去後を含む検証はほとんどなされておらず、本研究で検討した倫理的課題に関する内容を論文として出版した。「ロボットに対して愛着を持った関係性は社会的、倫理的に受容可能であるのか」を問い進め、追跡調査からロボットへの愛着形成や最も親しい人と同等の自己開示への意欲などが明らかとなってきた一方で、ロボットのような人工物との関係性が顔見知り程度の人との関わりを希薄化させるリスクがあるのかをさらに検討する必要性も明らかになってきた。さらに検討を進めた点として、人と機械の二元的な認識の境界で、ロボットはユーザの認識に揺らぎをもたらし、日常的な相互作用の反復の中で、人同士の関係に限られた社会規範や秩序を刷新していく可能性を秘める。高齢者がロボットを人のようにあやす遊びから始め、日々の挨拶、生活リズムを合わせて相手をしたり世話をしたり、さらに別れの時を刻む、インタラクションにこの独特のリズムを生み出すメディアの本質的性質を分析する課題がある。そのため人類学的な観点から見た「遊戯」と「儀礼」の相互作用の分析を行って内容を論文化した。
