项目摘要

ハワイへ渡った「戦争花嫁」移民のインタビューデータの文字起こしを行い、女性たちがハワイへ渡ったことに関してどのように語るのか、戦後という特殊な背景をどのようにとらえているのかについて再考を行っている。また、結婚や移住の特殊性から、ハワイにわたってからの現地のコミュニティとのかかわり、仕事や子育てを通してのハワイ主流社会とのかかわり、そして日系社会とのかかわりにどのような影響があったのかという点についても再考している。例えば、日本人にとって敗戦後の結婚という国家の権力関係は、その後渡米した先での夫婦関係にも影響を及ぼすのだろうか、もしそこに変化が生じるのであればそれはハワイという多文化、多人種社会の寛容性によるものであろうか、または「戦争花嫁」移民の主体的な意思によるものが強いのであろうか。特に、アメリカ人男性と日本人女性の国際結婚が珍しくなくなった時代に、6，70年前にアメリカへ渡った「戦争花嫁」移民の女性たちはどのようにハワイ社会の一員となり、日本にどのような想いを持ち、戦後を生き抜いたのであろうか。「戦争花嫁」の一人、スタウト和子氏は「戦争花嫁」移民たちは現代の国際結婚の先駆けとして草の根の活動を行ったと話している。この一年は現代のアメリカ人男性と日本人女性で形成された家族やその子供たちが多く通う日本人補習校のレインボー学園を観察する貴重な機会を得た。「戦争花嫁」移民の女性たちが戦後のハワイ社会で築いたことは現代までどのようにつながっているのだろうか。歴史の継続性に着目して、これらの問いの答えを明らかにしていきたい。
