近年、がん患者の長期生存にともない治療を受けながら地域で生活するがん患者は増加している。そんな中、がん患者同士が集い、語り合うサポートグループ（以下、SGとする）が注目されている。SG参加による心理的改善やQOL向上等の効果は明らかにされているが、彼らにとってのSG参加の意味づけや患者同士の交流が彼らの生活にどのような影響を与えているか、長期的視点から明らかにした研究は見当たらない。本研究の目的は、SG参加３ヶ月後、半年後、１年後、２年後、３年後のSG参加の意味づけと生活への影響のプロセスを明らかにすることである。本研究は、がんサバイバーが増加する現代において、彼らを支援する新たな長期的支援システム構築につながる有意義な研究であると考える。これまでSGを運営しているがん患者支援団体、がん患者会に研究協力を依頼し、複数の団体から研究参加者の募集ポスター掲示の承諾を得ることができた。加えて、複数の研究参加者を得ることができており、研究参加者とインタビューの日程調整、方法等を工夫しながら研究活動を進めているところである。しかしながら、全国的かつ長期的な新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大にともない、がん患者自身が感染予防のために外出を控えたり、参加者の感染予防に配慮して多くのがん患者支援団体やがん患者会が対面によるSGを中止あるいは休止している状況にある。加えて、インタビューを予定した日程であっても、感染予防の観点から急遽キャンセルしたり延期したりすることが多く、データ収集が進んでいない。研究参加者の安全を第一に、研究方法について調整を行い、実現可能な方法を検討しながら進めているところである。
