项目摘要

本研究の課題は、ヴァティカンがイタリアをはじめとするファシズム勢力に対して取った戦略、交渉を考察することで、戦間期から第二次世界大戦中の国際関係においてヴァティカンが果たした役割を浮き彫りにするものである。ヴァティカンの諸文書館で史料調査を行う計画であったが、いまだ安全に出張を行える状況ではなかったため、実施を見合わせざるをえなかった。そのため、本年度も同様、文献資料の収集、入手済みの史料と先行研究の分析、整理を中心に、国内で行える作業に注力した。また、次年度に史料調査を実施したいと考え、研究期間の再延長申請を行った。今年度取り組んだ主な研究内容としては、①ヴァティカンが国家や政治権力との棲み分けをどのように考えていたか、②国家・植民地内で再編成される人々の管理についてのヴァティカンの姿勢、具体的にはアフリカやユダヤ人といった「人種」を巡りどのような立場を取っていたかに着目しつつ、教皇の発言、行動を分析した。研究の成果公開として：①ヴァティカンが新規に公開したピウス12世時代の新史料を紹介し、その文書群の歴史研究における利用可能性について論じた。他の歴史研究者への情報提供としての価値があると考える。②本研究はファシズム勢力との関係性を扱う研究であるが、協力と抵抗だけでは割り切れない様態の把握を目指している。単純に割り切れない関係のあり方を考察するために、イタリアのユダヤ系作家P・レーヴィが提示した「グレーゾーン」という概念を歴史研究に導入すべく検討した論考を発表した。
