国内外における学生の保健・公衆衛生学的意識及び知識の相違を検証するために日本国内の教育要綱、教育指針、教科書からの教育内容およびCDC(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) により設定された標準保健教育指針から重要事項および必須と考えられる保健知識を抽出し、日本国および米国共通の保健教育教育項目①栄養と身体活動②成長、発達と性の健康③傷害の防止④飲酒、喫煙、薬物乱用⑤心の健康、社会的な健康⑥個人と地域の健康、の中から特に重要と思われる①、②、③、④、としてこれらの教育内容に対して知識項目を設定した。この各知識項目に対しての①知識の有無、②授業からの知識の取得、③知識の情報源、④知識の自己評価の10段階評価回答、の質問を設定した。Covid-19感染拡大を鑑み、自己記入式調査用紙の方式ではなく、オンラインによる質問調査形式として、これらの調査項目を医学部・医療看護学部・保健看護学部・国際教養学部・保健医療学部・スポーツ健康科学部の新入生に調査したところ、アンケートの配信をした1562人中549名が回答した。回収率は全体で 35.1%, 医学部 54.4%, 医療看護学部 30.9%, 保健看護学部 70.9%, 保健医療学部理学 68.6%, 診療放射線 24.8%, スポーツ健康科学部 26.2%, 国際教養学部 20.4%であり、うち192 名 (35%) が男性で353名(64.3%)が女性、非公開4名で(0.7%)あった。解析の結果、学生の少なくとも10%が、大学入学前に29トピックの内11トピックを授業で学んでいないと回答し、特に性に関する知識とその情報源に偏りと性による差が見られた。これらの結果は、公衆衛生、特に性的健康に関する知識のギャップとバイアス、および性差があることが示唆された。
