By the application at hand we would like to ask for a subvention for the printing of the volume: Sarah Lange, Anne Wissing, Jochen Schmid, Valeria Paoletti, Alexander Ahrens, Elisa Roßberger, Der Königsgruftkomplex von Qaṭna, I: Befunde und Fundverteilung des Korridors und der Vorkammer, mit Beiträgen von Ahmad A. al-Rawi, Otto Cichocki, Katleen Deckers, Stephanie Döpper, Ivana Puljiz, Simone Riehl und Emmanuelle Vila, Qaṭna Studien 8. The aim of the series “Qatna Studien” is to place the final publications of the German-Syrian excavations at Qatna at the disposal of the professional circles. The here presented eighth volume, written by a collective of authors of the Qatna excavation project who were working tightly together, is the first of two volumes which comprises the final publications of the royal tomb complex of Qatna. In this first volume the passageway leading to the royal tomb as well as the prechamber of the tomb complex are treated. These two parts of the tomb complex are architecturally very well preserved and show many different elements. They exhibit many layers of destruction deposits of two superposed floors of the palace together with a large amount of finds. Therefore these parts of the tomb complex are presented in an own volume. In this book the architecture, the stratigraphy and the chronology of the two units in question as well as the connected find assemblages are submitted. The find themselves are only presented in detail, if they are not analysed within a separate volume. The latter is performed if a large quantity and great importance of the find group recommend a special treatment, as in the case of the cuneiform tablets, the stone vessels, the sealings and ceramics. The second volume, which is to be completed in the near future, will comprise a complete presentation of the features from the four grave chambers of the royal tomb. Accordingly the two volumes contain very different aggregates of the royal tomb complex, each of which is very complex in itself. But already the mere scope of the manuscripts renders a separation into two volumes necessary. So the here presented volume “Qatna Studien 8” is tightly connected to other volumes of the series and takes an important position within the publication programme of the Qatna excavation project.
