项目摘要

採用第２年度目は長編合巻『童謡妙々車』の調査・研究を中心に行った。『童謡妙々車』は江戸時代末から明治時代初期に多くの読者を得た作品で、四名により「嗣作」された（書き継がれた）ものである。現在多くの機関に所蔵されており、それらの機関へ赴き書誌調査を行った。その中で京都大学文学研究科潁原文庫蔵の『童謡妙々車』二編は早印本で、他機関所蔵本には見られない本書の刊行の経緯などが記されることがわかった。その刊行の経緯を注釈的に読み解くにあたり、時代や地域差を色濃く受ける「童謡」の調査も同時に行い、作者柳下亭種員が触れていた思想や学問の片鱗をみることができた。それは元禄期頃刊行の書物の影響と蘭学の影響を受けた可能性が高く、明治期の作者も種員の趣向の先見性を評価する。一方で三番目の作者である笠亭仙果が他作の長編合巻で行う嗣作の傾向をみると、最初の作者の意向に忠実に沿うように物語を組立てており、本作においてもその実態がみられた。そこから、本作品が長編化し収束を図る上で物語の中で必要不可欠なものと除いても変わりないものが仙果の中で線引きされており、その視点は当時の読者とも一致するであろうことから、読者視点での流行の変化なども読み取ることが可能となった。また、『童謡妙々車』の二番目の作者三亭春馬に関して、国立国会図書館蔵の『夢跡集』に二世三亭春馬の記述があり、蔦屋重三郎の孫であった旨などが記されることから、種員と関わりがあり、歌舞伎解説書として名高い『御狂言楽屋本説』の作者は二世三亭春馬であることを裏付けた。これらの人的ネットワークを明らかにすることもまた長編合巻の刊行の実態を顕在化させる重要事項の一つである。今後は引き続き長編合巻作品を探究することで「近世の継受」・「明治の門口」としての「幕末」を明確にするとともに、合巻や長編小説としての「様式」がいかなるものであったかを顕示したい。
