令和4年度は、前年度に全国規模でのオンライン調査を実施した、てんかん患者さん（310人）と一般人の方（213人）へのアンケート調査に関して解析を行い、American Epilepsy Society 2022での学会発表と、Epilepsia Open (A study of factors influencing self-stigma in people with epilepsy: A nationwide online questionnaire survey in Japan), Heliyon (Internet survey on knowledge and perceptions of epilepsy among the general public in Japan)で論文報告を行った。結果、社会的スティグマと相関するてんかんの知識不足が、必ずしもセルフスティグマとは相関しないことが明らかになった。これは、てんかん発作をなくすことを目標とした短期的な治療や、正しい知識を提供するのみではセルフスティグマを軽減することは難しいことを示唆している。正しい知識を社会に普及させるだけではなく、てんかんに対する肯定的な認識をもてるように支援することが、生涯を通じて人々の自尊心を高め、セルフスティグマを軽減できる可能性があると考えられた。さらに、令和4年5月～令和5年3月にかけては、てんかんで入院・外来治療を継続して受けている患者さんに対して対面で調査を依頼したうえでの自記式質問紙「てんかんに関する意識と生活の質に関するアンケート調査」を実施した。合計で206名からの回答を収集することができ、次年度においてさらに追加で参加者を集い、解析を行っていく予定としている。
