The main achievements of the current research are:1. Demonstrating that the minimum number of acoustic stations to determine river flow direction in unidirectional streams can be reduced to three stations which can be more practical, easier, and cost effective.2. Offering new guidelines to continuously estimate flow direction using a triangular distribution of tomographic systems.3. Investigating long-term runoff records obtained from FAT in comparison with classical monitoring approaches in terms of the following aspects: Flood characteristics and the effects of dams on flood hydrograph. Backwater effects caused by river channel bends, sand bars, and floodplains. Duration and slope of the hydrograph and the impacts of rainfall and catchment on runoff hydrograph.
