本研究は、ロッククライミングのゲレンデで起こる「アクセス問題」に注目する。アクセス問題とは、岩場へのアクセスの権利をめぐって岩の管理者や地権者とクライマーとの摩擦・対立を指す言葉である。しばしばクライマーが信仰対象や天然記念物の岩を「登攀の対象」とすることで問題が起こっている。本研究では特に信仰が関わって起こるアクセス問題を取り上げ、「岩を信仰する人々」と「岩を登る人々」双方の立場や主張を整理する。こうした作業を通じて宗教文化・伝統文化の保護と、持続可能なゲレンデ整備を両立するための方途や、それに資する基礎資料を提示することが本研究の目的である。今年度はコロナ禍の煽りもあり、対面での調査には引き続き困難さを抱えたものの、オンラインを中心にクライマーや登山関係者へのインタビューを継続した。クライミング・ゲレンデの土地の所有に関わる問題や国立公園の管理に関わる問題、ゲレンデ整備の工法に関わる問題などについて、情報の収集・整理を行なうことで、「アクセス問題」に関わる諸問題の〈分解〉を試みた。また、前年度に繋がりを持つことができた「出羽三山門前町プロジェクト」との協働も継続し、事務局メンバーと密に連携をとりながら伝統的な山岳霊場におけるアドベンチャーツアーの可能性と課題について検討をおこなった。とりわけ本年度は門前町の宿坊主にインタビューを行い、新しい観光施策を地域に〈軟着陸〉させる際のポイントを検討した。
