项目摘要

本研究は、紅茶産業の経営形態(半公営農園、民家農園、個人農家)がもつ社会構造という視点に着目し、こどもたちの教育達成の格差が生まれる背景にある要因との因果関係を①親が帰属する経営形態の社会的構造、②個人の選好(世帯状況と親の意識)から、定量分析と質的調査によって、体系的に考察・分析することを目的としている。本研究では、歴史的背景から、経営形態の社会構造や文化が異なる高地（ヌワラエリヤ）と低地（デニヤヤ）でパネル調査を行う予定であったが、ヌワラエリヤでは（収入を目的とした）茶葉栽培を行っている中・小規模農園や小規模農家を1地域で選定することが困難であったことから、ヌワラエリヤに接しているバドゥラやガンポラにも範囲を広げてアンケート調査を実施した。2022年度前半は、スリランカ国内の事情により現地調査を行うことが困難であったことから、現地アシスタントの協力を得て調査予定地域を選定し、12月下旬にヌワラエリヤ地域と近郊において現地調査を実施することができた。当該地域では、当初（交付申請書申請時）は各地域においてける調査数は50世帯を予定していたが、約80世帯から調査協力を得ることができ、また、雇用者や農園マネジャーへのインタビューも行うことができた。1月上旬には次年度夏に調査を行う予定であるデニヤヤを訪問し、現地のNGOに調査協力依頼と地域の情報収集を行った。「こどもの活動調査」データを使った分析については、国際雑誌に掲載されるとともに、2023年3月の国際研究集会にて発表を行った。また、2016年版のデータも入手することができため、次年度以降のデータ分析のための準備を行った。
