本研究は、学びの連続性の観点から重要である幼小連携が日本ではなぜ進展しないのか、その要因を比較教育史的手法によって解明することを目的とするものである。 日本において、幼小連携の概念が生起した1900年代から、アメリカ幼児教育の影響を強く受けてきたことから日米間の影響関係について着目して検討したい。具体的には本研究では幼小連携カリキュラムと養成の一体化を軸に学びの連続性を保障するための幼児期の教育と小学校教育の連携に関して検討する。本研究においてはアメリカから日本にいかなる経路によって教育情報が導入されたか、そのプロセスを詳細に検討することに意義があると考えている。とりわけ、アメリカとは異なる日本という土壌に導入した情報をいかに適応させていったかについて検討することが日本に幼小連携が定着しなかった要因を解明する鍵となると言えよう。そのプロセスを検討するため、本年は特に戦前日本に普及した幼小連携に関する教育情報の全体像を把握することを第一の課題とした。戦前期の教育雑誌を広く閲覧し、幼児教育雑誌のみならず初等教育全体に関連する雑誌記事を収集した。膨大な情報量があるため、初年度においてそれらをすべて収集することはできなかった。次年度以降も戦前日本の幼児教育の実際を解明していきたい。第二に、1900年前後のアメリカ進歩主義教育の中で、幼小連携の概念が生起し、子ども中心の思想のもと、幼小連携カリキュラムの開発が行われたことから、アメリカでの幼小連携の動向を検証する作業を行った。当時のアメリカの歴史的資料を読解しながら、アメリカで行われた幼小連携の実際を確認した。次年度は特に進歩主義者によるカリキュラム開発の内容分析を行いたい。初年度にあたる本年度は調査を主に行った。次年度も同様の調査を継続しつつ、学会誌等に研究の成果を公表していきたいと考えている。
