研究目的 : 豊岡市所蔵和算書の調査・研究を通して, 「江戸時代の旧出石藩に於ける和算研究の状況」に焦点を置き, 研究を進める。研究方法 : ①「豊岡市所蔵和算書」, 「宝蔵文庫」(6冊)及び「嶋村家所蔵和算書」の内容を更に詳しく検討するとともに, 現地調査や文献の収集及び研究を行う。②「豊岡市所蔵和算書」, 「室蔵文庫」の内容を整理し, 「地域の和算」として可能な限り教材化を行い, 貴重な文化遺産である「和算を生徒に伝えたい。研究成果 : ①「室蔵文庫」の中の「天元算」については, 昨年度豊岡市教育委員会に報告書を提出するとともに, 豊岡市立図書館等に寄贈したが, 本年度は「天元術」について, 「どのようにして和算家は天元術を理解していったか」を詳しく検討していった。読んだ文献では「算学啓蒙によってもたらされた天元術を理解するために, 和算家は多くの時間と多大の努力をした」としか書かれておらず, この点についての文献の収集や研究を行った。「室蔵文庫」は, 豊岡市史編纂の際に, 集められた和算書群であり, その出所について現地調査を行ったが, 当時の資料編纂室のメンバーの高齢化等により, 思うように進んでいないのが実際である。今後も現地調査を行い, 旧出石藩の和算研究の状況を明らかにしていきたいと考えている。また, 近隣諸藩では, 豊岡藩の「和田治郎」「大谷善五郎」を含めた「和算家譜」の整理に着手することができた。まだ始めたばかりであるが, 来年度中の完成を目指している。さらに, 中心人物の竹村好博の菩提寺に着いては, 墓石調査等の現地調査を行ったが, 確定するところまでには至っていない。②「天元算」は全問が一次・二次方程式で構成されているため, 中学数学に於いても充分に教材化できる内容である。現在は, 新潟大学教育人間科学部山田和美名誉教授の指導を受けながら, 内容を検討し, 整理・分類の作業を行い, 問題の順序・配列等の作業を進めている段階である。
