○研究目的 : 豊岡市所蔵和算書の調査研究を通して, 和算の歴史やその社会的背景・和算の特徴を研究し, 和算を1つの文化として捉えて, 可能な限り教材化を図りたい。○研究方法 : ①和算書の解読・現代語訳を行う。また, 現代解を行い, 報告書・冊子を作成して, 市民に還元する。②豊岡市所蔵和算書の内容を整理し, 「地域の和算」として可能な限り教材化を行う。○研究成果 : ①豊岡市所蔵和算書38冊(内15冊は未見)について, 解読・現代語訳・現代解を行った。その結果, 「雜題飼食撰問」「新算梯比例全」「新算梯巻之一」の3つの和算書については報告書を豊岡市教育委員会に提出するとともに, 豊岡市立図書館等へ寄贈した, また, 「八線表用法」については, 現代語訳に取り組んでいるところである。このうち, 「雜題飼食撰問」については, 多様な問題の中に, 和歌に関する問題が含まれていた。和歌の文字に数字をあてはめ, その数字を17次方程式にして和歌の内容に合うような問題にしたものであった。和算は元来芸術的要素が強く, 「芸に遊ぶ」ということがよくいわれた。そこで, 「数学と和歌」という題目で, 和算以前(奈良時代～江戸時代)・和算成立以後における数学と和歌の関連をまとめ, 近畿和算ゼミナールで発表を行った。②数学と和歌の関連は, 「趣味～数学の普及～芸術」と移り変わっていったと考えられる。物事を学び習得するには暗唱という方法がよく用いられる。それには簡潔さが必要とされるため, 当時の和算家は和歌という形式で内容をまとめたのである。そこで, 実際の数学の授業(1年空間図形 : 立体の計量)で, 角錐・円錐等の体積の公式を和歌で生徒に紹介したところとても好評で, その定着もよかった。教材化にあたっては, 新潟大学人間科学部山田和美教授に直接指導を受けながら進めていった。豊岡市所蔵和算書の多くは初学者向きの内容であるため, 中学生にも解ける問題である。教材化をさらに進め, できるだけ多くの先生方に使ってもらえるよう, 内容を精選していきたいと考えている。
