2006年末から2007年夏にかけて、広島県尾道市と福山市の境にある山波の洲付近でマヒトデの大繁殖が見られた。山波の洲は、松永湾湾口の尾道水道を流れる潮流と湾内に流入する河川とが衝突することで急激に流速が低下し、河川よって運ばれた砂泥が堆積して生じたと考えられている。同時に潮流速度も低下するため、これに乗って運ばれた様々な海産物の幼生や稚魚もこの地域に集まることになる。このため、山波の洲はアサリをはじめとする魚介類の豊富な地域として地元では知られている。申請者は2000年頃より当該地付近でヒトデ類の採集を行っているが、大繁殖の前兆は観察されていなかった。このことから山波の洲に大繁殖したマヒトデは、先に述べた形成や魚介類幼生の定着メカニズムと同様に、他の地域から移入してきた幼生が成長した結果ではないかと考えた。そこで本研究では、山波の洲付近および周辺地域で採集したマヒトデを材料に増幅断片長多型(AFLP)解析法を用いて各地のマヒトデの類縁関係を調査することで、どのような地域から山波の洲へ移入してきたのか検討を試みた。調査に用いたヒトデ類は、尾道・吉和・鞆の浦の各漁協にご協力いただき、マヒトデ、スナヒトデを入手した。また、BALB/cマウスゲノムDNA、岡山県瀬戸内市のイトマキヒトデを用いた。AFLP解析は、常法に従って行った。これまでの解析により、瀬戸内市のマヒトデに由来すると思われるものが、山波の洲にほど近い向島町で得たマヒトデに数個体見られた。ブートストラップ確率が60%とやや低いため、採集地や標本数を増やすなどしてさらなる検討が必要であるが、瀬戸内海東部に由来するマヒトデが山波の洲周辺に存在するらしいことが分かった。今回は入手できなかったが尾道市より西部の地域でマヒトデを採集して、今後ともさらに検討を続けて行きたい。
