本研究の目的は教職員を取り巻く言語環境に着目し、「授業展開力」の向上のための手立てとして、授業における児童生徒への対応を若手教員の「ことば」と「表情」に特化して検討・意見見交換し、「授業検証力」の育成を図ることのできる研修プログラムを開発することであった。まず、延べ15人の若手教員の授業をビデオ撮影し、若手教員同士で、その発する言葉と表情に注目しながら意見交換させたところ、多くの教員が、ほめる言葉の少なさと教員自身の表情の乏しさに着目した。さらに、児童生徒の思考を促す場面では、経験年次の浅い教員ほど児童生徒に考えさせるための時間を与えることができない、つまり「無言の時間」に耐えられない傾向があった。授業を実践する中でプリント類を書くための時間を十分に取ることは多くの若手教員が意識していたが、児童生徒との授業中の言葉でのかかわりについては、児童生徒が考え込んでいることに対して若手教員自身が不安を感じてしまい、つい補足説明をしてしまうなどの場面を多く観察することとなった。また、児童生徒が考え込んでいる際の若手教員の表情そのものが不安を感じさせるような表情となっており、授業者自身の表情を児童生徒が安心して思考を深められるものとする必要があることを多くの若手教員が認識した。そこで、平成22年11月以降、若手教員と児童生徒との間で、授業の中でことばによるかかわりを基に思考を深めさせるために、上記3つの下線部を課題として授業実践を積み重ねている。今後の課題としては、児童生徒の表情からどのような情報を読み取るのか、また若手教員自身の表情が児童生徒に対してどのような影響を与えているのかについて検討を加える必要がある。
