Intertextuality in the Chinese Buddhist Canon:Computational-Philological Assessment of Sources, Authorship/Translatorship, and Style

The project will apply existing, ground-breaking computer-assisted techniques to achieve three interrelated studies of problems of intertextuality, style and attribution in the Chinese canon. These studies will increase the accuracy of our knowledge of the authors/translators, dates, and nature of a significant numbers of Chinese Buddhist texts. Because the texts are the evidential bedrock for investigations in a number of fields, the project findings have the potential for considerable knock-on significance. Funding is sought for two postdoc fellowships, to complete two of the three sub-projects (the third will be completed by the principal applicant); for some further software development; for conference and workshop activities to publicise our findings; and for publication.
