In the second funding phase, the subproject focuses on the category of style, which has its foundation in rhetoric, in order to deepen the project's concept of validity historically and systematically. In literary studies, the focus is on the disciplinary establishment of German studies and the paradigm of 'national style' in the 19th century. On the jurisprudential side, the thesis will be defended that the style of national legal systems can generate different modalities of validity of law. The subproject will demonstrate that the style dimension is as fundamental to the identity formation of national legal systems as it is to the disciplinary self-constitution of literary studies.
