体育・スポーツ科学の研究においては、人間を被験者として行う場合が数多くある。人間を被験者とする場合には、ヘルシンキ宣言に則り、被験者へのインフォームド・コンセントが必要であることは論を待たない。しかし、被験者へのインフォームド・コンセントを同意書の形でとっても、実際は、さまざまな人間関係に基づく、自主的とは言えない同意があるときく。そこで、本研究は,体育・スポーツ科学の研究を行う上で、被験者に対する人権がどのような形で保護すべきかを明らかにすることを目的とした。体育系大学生に対する実態調査の結果、特に被験者への説明が簡略化、中には省略される場合もあったし、被験者の中には、実験結果や成果が全くフィードバックされないことへの不満を訴えるケースもみられた。また運動部の顧問教官、先輩の要請をうけて被験者を受諾した場合や、授業時間中に実施された十分な説明もない調査にやむなく応じた例も見られた。こうした被験者の徴集や調査の実施は、明らかに被験者や非調査者の主体的、自主的な参画とは言えない状況をつくり出している。これらは改善すべき点として指摘できる。また、豪州において「小学生に対するアンケート調査」を行った際の手続きを調べた結果、日本においては比較的安易に行われる意識調査であっても、まず、研究倫理委員会の審査承認書が最初に必要であり、続いて地域の教育委員会への依頼があり、さらに当該小学校長への依頼、等々といった非調査者に対する人権保護がシステマテックに決められていることが判明し、我が国のモデルになる可能性が示唆された。2年間の調査研究の結果、特に、人権保護のためには、第三者審査機関としての研究機関内研究倫理委員会が実質的に機能することが不可欠であるだけでなく、被験者に対する的確かつ正確なインフォームド・コンセントが研究の信頼性を決定的にするという研究者自身の意識を啓蒙させることも重要と結論づけられた。
