本研究の目的は非営利の図書館サービスの分析と構想のための概念枠組みとしてのメタビジネスモデルとそのオントロジーを構築し、それに基づいて図書館サービスの分析と構想のための手法を開発することである。はじめに、図書館サービスを対象としたビジネスモデル(以下、BM)の概念枠組みを検討し、メタビジネスモデル(以下、MBM)を構築した。営利BMのメタモデルはすでに議論されているが、非営利組織のMBMについては検討例がない。このため、まず公共経営論のエージェンシー・モデルを用いて図書館サービスの組織的構図を検討し、その構図を踏まえて図書館サービスのMBMを戦略層とアーキテクチャ層の二層からなるものとして構築した。このモデルの有効性の検証と現実のサービスのBMを分析・構想する方法の検討のために、サービス現揚の実態を踏まえつつ、その裏側で意識されているBMを明示的に抽出するための調査票を設計し、図書館(公共、大学、専門)と博物館を対象として、BM調査を行い(回答は197館。回収率31.6%)、並行して図書館、博物館の管理者層に対する聞き取り調査を行った。その結果、MBMの要素としてはおおむねモデルが妥当であったが、複合的なサービス間の関係性を扱うこと、BM構想のための思考枠組を与えることが必要であることが明らかとなった。このため、戦略層、サービスモデル層、アーキテクチャ層からなる三層モデルに改良した。さらにこのMBMに基づいてBM記述のためのオントロジーを構成した。これによって、図書館現場を対象としたBMの分析とともに、図書館現場でのBM構想のための基本的な思考枠組を構成することができた。このMBMを用いて調査回答等からBMを抽出・構成するなどによって、現在の図書館等サービスのBMの特徴等の分析と新しいBM構想のための手がかりを得ること、MBMの図書館以外の非営利サービスへの適用可能性の検討などの展開が期待できよう。
