项目摘要

本研究は、ひとりの趣味家のネットワークをもとに、日本の地域社会から植民地を見直す試みである。本年度は、記録をして残っていた板祐生コレクションを提供した鳥取県西伯郡旧S町の人々の大陸移住の足跡をかなり知ることができた。台湾総督府や朝鮮総督府、満鉄や満州農産公社あるいは京東鉄道会社の社長など、のちに植民地の中枢をともつながる人材が小さな集落に何人も存在していたことが興味深い点である。また、祐生の知人も、上記の人々を訪ね、あるいは頼って、一時的に朝鮮へ赴いていたことが、遺族へのインタビューや日記等からわかり、交通の要所ではない地域でも植民地との往来が活発であったことが推測できた。移住の時期は、明治末から大正のし初期が最初のピークで、のち満州事変を境に中国大陸への移住者も出てくる。祐生の周辺では、カナダ移民や南洋諸島への移住者などその他の外国や「外地」移住者が65名戦前存在したが、彼らの一部は、先のキーパーソンの影響もあるが、地域的には近所隣居住者であっても、多くが個々の事由で、あるいはネットワークで移住しており、今日よりも人々が、気軽に大陸向かう志向をもっていたことがわかる。また、鳥取県は植民地移住の数では全国の中でも劣位に属する点から、明治期以降の植民地情報の広がりや、庶民の大陸観を知る上で、モデルとしても有効であると思うわれ。また、他地域ではどのようであったかを、今回は祐生と関連した趣味家たちのなかでは、朝鮮の風俗は今日より身近に存在であったこと、彼らは祐生同様、趣味家集団にいくつも属しており、また絵手紙や大陸情報を伝える版画葉書をさまざまな知人から得ていたことがわかった。多くの趣味家の周辺の人々が(時には本人も)、大陸を旅していたことがわかる。しかし、玩具集にあらわれる劣玩具などからみると、明治に遡るほど、インド、欧州など旧植民地以外の「世界」にその視線はあり、休戦に近づくほど「亜細亜」へ収斂されていく点も時代の風潮が玩会にも起こっていた点は興味深い。しかし、興味家の書簡や、関連する植民地経験には、現地の風景や風俗に関する情報はあるが、人々に関する記憶や語りは希薄であるという点が共通し、当時の「内知人」と植民地の関係を象徴するようであった。
