本研究が扱う算額とは，奉納者が和算の問題や解答方法を書いて神社仏閣に奉納した絵馬の一種で，近世後期から昭和初期頃まで奉納された。本研究では，これまで歴史研究にほとんど活用されてこなかった算額について，主に南東北を対象として調査と研究をおこない，歴史研究の素材としての有用性を提示することを目指す。昨年度の成果は①算額調査，②学会発表，③論文の公表に大別される。①寺社での算額調査の実施：昨年度は宮城県内でもっとも多い5点の算額を所蔵している丸森町の小斎鹿島神社と，算木の図が書かれた珍しい算額を所蔵してる仙台市若林区の沖野八幡神社での算額調査を実施した。調査では，算額の寸法を計測し，デジタルカメラおよび赤外線かめらで撮影をおこなう。過去に刊行された資料集の文字との異同もできる限り確認した。②学会発表：秋に開催された全国和算研究大会で，歴史研究者である研究代表者と数学研究者である分担者がそれぞれの研究視点から算額の研究発表をおこなった。③論文の公表：昨年度は，調査に基づく2本の論文を発表した。論文では，調査の概要紹介と算額の内容に関する数学的考察，そして算額の検討から再構築される地域の歴史像について論じることができたと自負している。算額のように学問的専門性が高い内容を有する歴史資料を扱うには，歴史研究者だけではなく，専門分野に精通した研究者の協力が不可欠である。両者が協力しあうことによって新たな知見が得られると確信して本研究を計画したところであるが，初年度を終えてその確信をますます強くできる成果を得ることができたと感じている。
