F.A, Mann (1907-1991): Shaping the Development of English, German, European and International Law

F.A. Mann (1907-1991), who arrived in England in 1933 as German émigré, is generally viewed as one of the most important lawyers of the 20th century. Following a complete stock-taking and partial analysis of his previously unknown, very substantial correspondence with the help of DFG grant, the present application seeks to address central further research questions arising from this first review, leading to a new understanding of how Mann continues to have shaped English, German, European and international law. Current research on the law of money, public and private international law, transnationalisation of law, historical network research and Jewish academic biographies in the 20th century in particular stands to benefit from an in-depthstudy of the person and work of this wanderer between different legal areas and different legal cultures.
