近現代日本の代替知運動のいくつかについて、訪問や参与観察、文献調査を進める一方、関連する宗教運動についての調査研究をも進め、代替知運動と宗教運動の相互関係を捉えるための基礎的な資料を得るとともに、今後の研究の枠組みについて考察した。島本酵素農法や森田療法については文献資料による研究を進めた上で、森田療法の代表的な集団である「生活の発見」会について、訪問調査を行った。また、気功の運動の先駆的事例である野口整体や、自然食運動の先駆的事例であるマクロバイオティック(日本CI協会)についても、訪問調査を行い、インタビューや資料の収集を行った。さらに、代替知運動と関連が深い現代的な宗教運動、「精神世界」の運動について癒しの運動を中心に資料の収集を進めた。宗教教団の中では、世界救世教やワールドメイトやGLAなどの教団について、代替知運動との関連を調べた。これらの調査研究によって、代替知運動の中でもっとも大きな力をもつ癒しの運動の広がりのおおよそをつかむとともに、その他の代替知運動や宗教運動が癒しの運動とどのように関わっているか、ある程度の知見を得ることができた。特に70年代以降、「自助グループ」としての自覚をもつ運動の発展が著しいことに気付き、こうしたタイプの運動の歴史についても、新たに調査研究を開始した。一方、カナダのケベック市で開かれた国際宗教社会大会において、代替知運動研究の必要について論じたが、欧米とともにアジアの研究者から共鳴を得ることができた。その他にもこのテーマについて論議する機械を多くもつことができ、理論的な枠組みについてある程度の練り直しを行うことができた。
