近年では,交通計画,都市計画を考える上でも,「持続可能な交通体系」の創出が声高に叫ばれている.その定義は文献によって様々であるが,いずれの定義においても,地球環境に配慮した交通状況の創出が前提とされている.この持続可能性を創出するためには,様々なハード的,システム的な解決策を考えるのと同時に,"環境に配慮する心理的傾向"を人々が持つことが不可欠であることが主張されている.こうした心理傾向は,新しい社会規範と言えよう.こうした社会規範を,環境配慮規範,と呼称しよう.もしも,こうした新しい社会規範が,持続可能性の確保のために必要であるならば,次の問いに答えることが不可欠である.「(問い)どの様な条件を整えれば,環境配慮規範が社会に根付くのか?」この問いを検討するためには,いくつかのアプローチが考えられるかも知れない.しかし,その研究の中で,絶対に不可欠な視点は「規範が社会に流布され,根付くプロセス」についての理論的な知見である.これを考える上で,極めて有効なアプローチが心理学の分野にある.「進化心理学」という,心理学における一つの新しい領域である(長谷川・長谷川,2000).本研究では,以上の認識の下,進化心理学のアプローチに基づいて,「どのような内容の情報提供が,(交通行動における)環境配慮規範の形成に寄与するか?」「どのような情報提供技術が,(交通行動における)環境配慮規範の形成に寄与するか?」「どのようなターゲットを,どの様な順番で接触していくことで,(交通行動における)環境配慮規範が形成されていくのか?」「どのような交通施設整備が,(交通行動における)環境配慮規範の形成に寄与するか?」といった諸点に検討を加えるものである.
