研究課題を遂行するにあたり、改めて問題の幅と深さを自覚的に認識することが要求される。そこで、研究計画の初年度としての平成4年度の研究実績は次のようなものである。1、英米文学研究の従来のあり方とも、また美学的研究の従来のあり方とも異なる、新たな学際的研究の方法論的反省に関して、討議の研究会を継続的に開いた。(成果については未発表)2、研究分担者による個々の研究の持続の成果は、別記「研究発表」に記す通りであるが、渡部による研究論文は伝統的テーマに現代批評の視角を援用した試みであり、また浜下による著書は18世紀イギリス美学における諸問題の傾向を整理したものであるが、これらの成果は批評研究の歴史的発展や連続性を明らかにする助けとなった。3、研究課題に関連する文献一覧のデータ・ベース作成は、中間報告すら困難なほどに膨大な作業となりつつあるが、その発表の体裁については考慮中であり、作業そのものは継続中である。4、前記作業と関連して、単に文献の羅列・紹介に終ることのない研究を志向するゆえに、当面の試みとして、現代批評の代表的論者(ノリス、イーグルトン、ジェイムソン、ド・マン、その他)の立場の確認や各論者の間の関係についての見取り図を整理した。5、文献の収集は、特に上記3、4に関連する資料について心がけた。むろん周到な集成は今後の計画次第であるが、本年度の収集計画を立てるに際して、多くのカタログを入手し、また書店から出版情報を得たことは収穫であった。6、研究分担者を中心とする研究会を開き、イーグルトンの批評的立場の批判的検討を行なったが、この研究会と作業は継続中である。
