Antiumor and Antimetastatic Effects of omega3 Fatty Acids against Tumors

In recent years, diet and nutritional factors are considered to be of major importance in the cancer developing with a multistage process and in the unregulated proliferation of malignant cells.The lipid composition of cell membranes is dependent to a great extent on the composition of the diet. The membrane lipid structual changes may alter physicochemical characteristics of membrane and thereby alter cellular functios. We evaluated the in vivo antimetastatic activity of omega3 fatty acids in murine neuroblastoma.Experimental hepatic metastasis of C-1300 neuroblastoma were markdly reduced by treatment with omega3 fatty acid.Liver-carcass ratios were decreased. Histrogical findings showed that hepatic metastasis was suppressed. There was a decrease in levels of PGE2 and Procoagulant activity with omega3 fatty acid treatment. These results demonstrated that omega3 fatty acids have potent in vivo antimetastatic effects against neuroblastoma.
