I inspected French Aesthetics in the late 19thand early 20thcenturies, especially that of Victor Basch (1863-1944), focusing on the relationship with modern German philosophy. In addition, I investigated the ideological atmosphere in France at that time by examining, for example, psychical researches vigorously pursued in Europe at the turn of the century.
