Action Research on Organizing Students' Volunteer Activities

本研究旨在探讨组织大学生参与志愿者活动的可能性。在大多数西方国家，学生不仅支持各种志愿者活动，积极参与其中，而且在其中发挥关键作用。另一方面，青年和学生愿意参加志愿者活动，并重视他们，似乎这样的活动给了他们很好的机会，以获得各种社会经验和广阔的视野。此外，很明显，学生志愿者活动参与者受到西方社会的重视，因为这些学生在就业方面往往受到许多雇主的良好待遇。然而，尽管在日本也有很多人提倡在青年群体中推广志愿者活动，但这些具有积极无偿态度的活动并没有充分渗透到我们的社会中。事实上，有人认为，在日本，所有青年都必须参加志愿活动，或者参加这些活动的人在进入大学或就业方面有优势，这样的制度才能确保青年志愿者的参与。在我们的研究中，我们首先分析了学生对志愿活动的态度，并仔细研究了日本大学生一天的空闲时间，以了解他们有多少空闲时间参加志愿者活动。其次，考察了美国非营利组织建立技能支持志愿者制度的先进案例。第三，我们报告了志愿者活动的案例，如“笔记员”支持聋人学生，“计算机教学班，以老年居民在社区社区”和“在菲律宾植树造林”，国际志愿者之一。

The aim of this study is to examine possibilities of organizing college students to participate volunteer activities. In most Western countries students not only support many kinds of volunteer activities to participant them positively, but also rather take critical parts in them. On the other hand youth and students are willing to participant volunteer activities and value much of them, seeming such activities give them good opportunities to get varied social experiences and broad view. Moreover it is also obvious that student volunteer activity participants are valued much by Western societies, because these students tend to be treated well by many employers in employing. However, although in Japan many people advocated to promote volunteer activities in youth group too, these activities with positive gratuitous attitudes don't enough permeate into our society. In fact, there are some persons arguing such the systems as all youth participate compulsory volunteer activities or the participants in those activities have the advantage in entrance to universities or employment are needed to secure young volunteer participants in Japan.In our study first we analyzed students' attitudes to volunteer activities and scrutinized how Japanese university students spent a day to make clear how much free time they hold to participate volunteer activities. Second, we investigated the advanced case of non-profit organization which established some skill-support volunteer system in United States. Third, we reported case studies of such the volunteer activities as "note-taker" supporting deaf students, "computer teaching classes to elderly residents in neighborhood community", and "afforestation in Philippines", one of international volunteer ones.
