The subjects were workers m a camera maker company Lifestyle information was obtained by a self-administered questionaire m the annual health-Check-ups, Healthy lifestyles, or "good health practices" examined were, 1) not, smoking, 2) not drinking, too, much alcohol, 3)r doing physical exercise regularly, 4) sleeping more than 6 h per night, 5) keeping, nutritional, balance In meals, G) not working longer than 10 h a day, 7) having breakfast everyday, and 8) not having too much perceived stress Healthiness of lifestyles was assessed,by calculating Health Practice Index (HPI), the number of good health practices they do : The persons were usually categorized into 3 groups having good, moderate and poor lifestyles by HPIThe general health status was assessed by the ridit analysis of the incidence of abnormal values sin bloody biochemistry, blood-pressure, and urine tests of multiphasic health check-ups. The general health wash found to decrease with aging ; but to vary a lot according to their lifestyles For example, the mean level of somatic health of the persons having poor lifestyles m the 20's was about the same that of those with good lifestyles in the 40's. According to the results of G-yr follow-up of 2148 workers, the unhealthy workers were found to have had significantly higher asks for the developments of chronic diseases such as heart attack, liver disease, and diabetes
