This research aimed to examine public health activities as social development in Asian'safeties. The main questions here are how such activities have been carried out in different societies such as Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia; and also how they are related to the discourses and images of cleanliness, hygiene and health. In thissense, this research is a comparative study of public health in order to develop a new framework of development phenomena. In these three years, we have collected field data on various public health activities includingvillage water supply projects. Along with these field researches, some of our investigators examined actor-network theory and "Subaltern studies" for the analyses of development phenomena. Other investigators col lected and anal yzed various historical documents such as Pendjaga Din (an Indonesiantext book of public health, published in 1931). In the final report of this research project, we could include the above theoretical discussions on development phenomena in general and also the social historical analyses on puftic health. However, due to the lack of time, we could notanalyze most of field data on water supply activities yet. Therefore, we are going to continue this project and publish the extended edition of the final report by the end of 2002.
其他研究人员收集并分析了各种历史文件,如Pendjaga Din(一本1931年出版的公共卫生教科书)。
