本研究は、瀬戸内海諸地域の江戸時代から現代までの変遷過程において、産業・経済・文化を支えていた社会的・空間的要素とそのネットワークを沿海文化史の視点から読み解き、瀬戸内海諸地域における参画と協働に基づく地域活性化の提言への準備資料の作成を目的としていた。具体的な目的とその実績を以下に記す。1.各研究メンバーの過去の研究・調査蓄積の再整理および既往研究調査資料の体系的収集平成17年6月〜9月、研究代表者による文献等資料の購入。沿海諸地域の歴史・文化・産業に関する文献をはじめ、地図、朝鮮通信使に関する文献、さらに戦後米軍が撮影した瀬戸内沿海諸地域の空撮写真等を収集。平成18年2月、3月に行った、研究メンバーによるディスカッションにおいて、(1)海のネットワークづくり、(2)土地利用の歴史的把握、(3)江戸期における瀬戸内の再評価、等の目標を整理した。2.1のデータベース化と比較分析1の(2)土地利用の歴史的把握において重点箇所を設定し、朝鮮通信使に関する文献、地積測量図、米軍が撮影した瀬戸内沿海諸地域の空撮写真、現地調査による現状把握の結果、これらを用いて当該地の土地利用の変遷を確認した。3.研究対象地の陸路および水路からの現地調査による実態把握平成18年2月、3月の2度に渡り現地調査を実施。尾道、靹の浦、走島、白石島、北木島、真鍋島、佐柳島、高見島、広島、本島、櫃石島、直島、男木島、女木島、豊島、小豊島、小豆島、坊勢島、家島、神戸港を巡る。固有価値を持つ各島(本島・笠島集落のまちなみ、真鍋島・岩坪集落の空間構成、小豊島の環境単位等)と、直面している社会的問題(靹の浦沖に計画中の橋の建設問題、山林の衰退、本州及び四国沿岸の工場地帯の盛衰等)を把握。4.沿海文化史からみた瀬戸内海東部地域の秩序崩壊要因と新しい社会・空間秩序形成要因を明らかにする。1〜3の研究を通じ、(1)明治維新を契機とした社会的・文化的衰退、(2)江戸期に構成していた風景の再評価(「塩田」「松林」等)、(3)瀬戸内沿海諸地域を結ぶシータクシーNPO設立に向けてのプロポーザル、を提示し、瀬戸内海諸地域における参画と協働に基づく地域活性化の提言への準備資料の作成を行うことができた。
