(1)Development of learning contentsWe developed 97 exercises in total, which are made as stand-alone applications for i-mode mobile phones, for the subjects : Japanese, English, mathematics, science, social studies and information technology. According to the evaluation and students' opinions, we equipped the exercises with the functions : marking, repetition, pause and resumption, explanations of answers.(2)Distribution and evaluation196 students in total of high-schools and a college solved the exercises with the use of mobile phones. The final score, the number of repetitions and total required time of every exercise for every student were automatically recorded into the database on a Web server. Moreover, the students were requested to answer a Web questionnaire. Main results are as follows :・Many students used the exercises which have the method of answering, multiple choice. By contrast, some exercises which have the method of answering, fill-in-the-blanks were unpopular. This may be caused by unease of inputting words or figures with a mobile phone, or by the use of pen and paper for mathematics exercises.・Just as our intended, many exercises were completed within 10 minutes.・Nearly 70% of the respondents agree with learning with a mobile phone as a new style of learning.(3)Applied developments・The robot which can be controlled by the infrared ray of a mobile phone was developed to be a learning material.・The method of direct downloading from a PC to a new type mobile phone via a USB cable were examined.・By using a mobile phone equipped with contactless IC card (Felica), we examined data communication between the mobile phone and a Felica reader/writer connected to a PC by the USB interface. Consequently, we obtained the significant findings toward the seamless connection between mobile learning and PC learning.
