A Study of Rightward Movement Structures in Discourse : Relevance-theoretic and Cognitive Approach

本文以关联理论和认知语法为理论框架，探讨了制约语篇移位结构的功能和语用原则。我还建立了一个英语语篇移位结构数据库。具体研究结果如下：1.在讨论了以往英语重NP移位结构研究的不足之处后，笔者论证了Arnold等人（2000）的观点是恰当的，因为语法复杂性（重性）和语篇状态（新性）同时独立地影响词序。[Kato（2006年）]2.本文在信息结构理论的框架下，对语篇中重NP移位结构的功能特征进行了分析。[Kato（2006），Kato（2007）]3.在关联理论的框架下，我提出了新的关于语篇中有定名词短语解释的教材。[Kato Suzuki（2006）[4]我已经建立了一个数据库，其中存储了大量的NP移位，外置和分裂结构在话语中的例子。

In this research, I have aimed to elucidate functional and pragmatic principles governing rightward movement structures in discourse in the framework of Relevance Theory and Cognitive Grammar. I have also built a database of English rightward movement structures in discourse. Specific results of the researches are as follows :1. After discussing inadequacies of previous literature on English heavy NP shift constructions, I have demonstrated that the claims of Arnold et al. (2000) are appropriate in that both grammatical complexity (heaviness) and discourse status (newness) simultaneously and independently influence word order. [Kato (2006)]2. I have clarified the functional properties of heavy NP shift constructions in discourse in the framework of Information Structure. [Kato (2006), Kato (2007)]3. I have proposed new teaching materials regarding interpretations of definite NP expressions in discourse in the framework of Relevance Theory. [Kato and Suzuki (2006)]4. I have constructed a database, which stores examples of heavy NP shifts, extrapositions, and cleft constructions in discourse.
