In this research, I have aimed to elucidate functional and pragmatic principles governing rightward movement structures in discourse in the framework of Relevance Theory and Cognitive Grammar. I have also built a database of English rightward movement structures in discourse. Specific results of the researches are as follows :1. After discussing inadequacies of previous literature on English heavy NP shift constructions, I have demonstrated that the claims of Arnold et al. (2000) are appropriate in that both grammatical complexity (heaviness) and discourse status (newness) simultaneously and independently influence word order. [Kato (2006)]2. I have clarified the functional properties of heavy NP shift constructions in discourse in the framework of Information Structure. [Kato (2006), Kato (2007)]3. I have proposed new teaching materials regarding interpretations of definite NP expressions in discourse in the framework of Relevance Theory. [Kato and Suzuki (2006)]4. I have constructed a database, which stores examples of heavy NP shifts, extrapositions, and cleft constructions in discourse.

在这项研究中，我的目的是在关联理论和认知语法的框架下阐明支配语篇右移结构的功能和语用原则。我还建立了一个英语语篇移位结构数据库。具体研究结果如下：1.在讨论了以往英语重NP移位结构研究的不足之处后，笔者论证了Arnold等人（2000）的观点是恰当的，因为语法复杂性（重性）和语篇状态（新性）同时独立地影响词序。[Kato（2006年）]2.本文在信息结构理论的框架下，对语篇中重NP移位结构的功能特征进行了分析。[Kato（2006），Kato（2007）]3.在关联理论的框架下，我提出了新的关于语篇中有定名词短语解释的教材。[Kato Suzuki（2006）[4]我已经建立了一个数据库，其中存储了大量的NP移位，外置和分裂结构在话语中的例子。
