昨年度の秋田県能代市での調査に引き続き、本年度は長崎市で1982年長崎水害によって家族を失った人々を対象として詳細面接調査を実施した。長崎市の協力で多くの遺族の所在が把握でき,接触したが、テ-マの特殊性のゆえに拒否が多く,結局面接できたのは14遺族であった。しかし、その他にも当時および現在の行政担当者、マスコミ関係者、被災地域の自治会長,宗教関係者、精神医学者から貴重な情報を得ることができた。調査では、遺族の悲しみを和げたり、逆に強めたりする要因を探り、それらの作用に関与する条件を明らかにしようと試みた。そして、能代のケ-スと長崎のそれとでは遺族の悲嘆とその回復の様相が異なり、それには地域の文化、コミュニティの構造といった地域的条件のほか、近隣に同時に多数の被災者が出たか否かという被害の特性,遺族のパ-ソナリティや信念,価値観などの心理特性が関係していること、悲嘆を和らげようと意図した周囲の言動が場合によると逆の作用を持つ危険性があること、またある言動は同一人に対して同時にプラス,マイナスの効果を持つという意味でアンビバレントな機能を果たすこと、ある悲嘆増減要因の効果は被災からの経過時間に応じて変ってくること、遺体の速やかな発見と対面、儀式(葬儀,合同慰霊祭など)が一般にプラスに作用すること、死者の個人的関係者の儀式への参加、協力が大きな慰さめになること、マスコミ報道がプラスの効果を持つためには他の被災者に劣らぬ扱いをする必要があること、補償金等に関して中傷・誹謗する非常識な人間が遺族を傷つけることがあるのでその対策が必要なこと、法律・制度の枠を多少なりとも越えた扱いをすることが遺族の不満をしずめりのに役立つこと、など多くの知見を得ることができた。現在、研究報告論文を執筆中である。
