本研究最終年度である平成14年度は、研究成果の取りまとめに力を入れる一方、引き続き現地調査も行い、言語資料の量・質両面でのよりいっそうの充実をはかり、古アジア諸語研究の基盤整備をすすめることができた。また、これまで蓄積されてきた古アジア諸語の記述研究の成果をより広いコンテクストにおくべく、北太平洋を挟んで対峙する北米北西海岸地域の言語・文化の記述研究も並行して行った。チュクチ・カムチャツカ語族のアリュートル語に関しては、研究協力者の永山ゆかり(北海道大学大学院)が、ロシア連邦カムチャツカ州のコリヤーク自治管区においての現地調査を実施した。アリュート語については、研究協力者の大島稔(小樽商科大学教授;H14文部科学省在外研究員)がコマンドルスキー諸島ベーリング島においてアリュート語ベーリング島方言及びメドヌイ島方言に関する調査を実施した。研究代表者および研究協力者の中山久美子(カリフォルニア大学大学院)は北米北西海岸側の調査をカナダ、ブリティッシュ・コロンビア州のバンクーバー島西岸で行った。これらの現地調査で得られた言語の一次資料はこれまでの調査研究による資料とともに電子化した。語彙・文法データはデータベース化し資料の利用価値・利用効率を高め、音声はデジタル化し音質の劣化を防ぐとともにやはりデータとしての扱いやすさを向上させた。調査研究の成果刊行物としてはさらに文法概説およびテキスト集3編をまとめ、さらに、ロシア人研究者の著したアリュートルの言語と民話についての記述の翻訳作業を進めた。
