本研究ではグローバル化と中東地域の民衆文化に関する以下の研究を実施した。総合地球環境学研究所との共催で国際ワークショップ「「文明の生態史観」と地球社会」を開催した。また国立民族学博物館グローバル地域研究プログラム（グローバル地中海地域研究拠点・プログラム総括班）との共催で、国際シンポジウム「井筒俊彦の東洋哲学を再定置する」を開催した。また、これまでの議論の総括としての国際シンポジウムとして、The International Conference of Minpaku Special Project “Global Area Studies: Towards a New Epistemology for Mapping the Globalizing World”を開催した。くわえて一般向けに研究成果について広く周知するために、第40回人文機構シンポジウム『人類妄想進化論―文学はいかに地球社会を共創するのか？』を共同事業として開催した。グローバル地域研究というものに関する理論的考察をおこなうとともに、人間の内面世界と地球規模の現象との関係性を扱う方法論的視座を模索した。グローバル化とデジタル化の急加速は、グローバルデジタル環境の出現、個人と地球社会の間の空間域の流動化、既存の価値（在来知や文明的価値）の資源化、社会の様々なアクターの地球社会の構成員化を生じさせている。地域性をミクロな人間の内面性やマクロなグローバル地域との連関で捉える視点をもちながら、異なる心性の人びとがどうやって違いをこえて地球社会の共創のために協働できるのかという問いに答えるためには、地域性をミクロな人間の内面性やマクロなグローバル地域との連関で捉える視点が必要となるが、既成の関連分野には方法論的視座がなく、本研究課題ではそのような未開拓な研究視座を開拓するための方向性を探ることができた。
