High-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM) is an essential tool in nano sciences. To cover the research needs in materials chemistry and physics, condensed matter physics and life sciences at the University of Oldenburg, a versatile Schottky field-emission SEM instrument is required, providing (1) high-resolution imaging and (2) elemental characterization of nanostructured functional materials and biological tissues, and (3) a characterization of the optical properties of plasmonic and dielectric resonators and semiconductor nanostructures by cathodoluminescence spectroscopy. The instrument will be jointly operated as part of a service unit for electron microscopy located within the School of Mathematics and Science of the University of Oldenburg.
